The next ink in our Diamine Shimmering series is a solid blue that makes me say "Wow!". For a brand overview of all of the inks that will be reviewed in this series, follow this link.
Let's just start out by saying that I like Diamine Blue Pearl a lot, heck, it even matches the masthead for the site! The ink is dark enough that the particulate is easily seen in the writing and the ink has a red toned sheen similar to Diamine Majestic Blue or Private Reserve Electric DC Blue. The colour make-up of the ink shows both blue and violet components so I assume that the red sheen is being pulled from the violet.
In terms of similar inks, Blue Pearl is probably the closest blue in this series to J. Herbin's newly reformulated Bleu Ocean, However, this ink contains silver particulate where J. Herbin's offering contains gold and its colour skews more purple.
When choosing paper, all of the samples display the sparkle and sheen but Tomoe River is the hands down winner. This ink is beautiful on Tomoe River and it performs great. Both Majestic Blue and Electric DC Blue have a tendency to smudge after drying but Blue Pearl is not affected by this even though it is a highly saturated blue.
Diamine provided the inks in this review series. I do not feel that my opinions of this ink have been affected by receiving the samples free of charge.
