An overview of the inks within this review series is available here. In past reviews of brown inks I have said that I am biased against browns that skew towards grey, this is one of those inks. I think that the swabs of the two "Similar Inks" show inks that would be more interesting to use even though I have yet to try them. This one just doesn't seem to have a spark to it.
Where To Buy (No Affiliate Links)
Shading: No, just a dark brown.
Bleed Through: I would consider the back side of Field Notes to be unusable. Copy paper experiences minor bleed through, and while minor, it is still the worst Copy paper performance out of the Cult Pens inks tested to date.
Show Through: Absorbent papers exhibit show through and since this is a very dark colour, this show through may be distracting to some users.
Saturation: Highly saturated.
Water Resistance: No useful water resistance.
Drying Time: Long dry times, 35 seconds using an EF nib on Rhodia.
Flow: Wetter than average flow. Average lubrication.
Colour Make Up
While I have shown similar inks above, please note that the colour swatches are from different sources and may not have received the same level of colour correction.
This colour is not my shade of brown. It is a nice wet writer but this means that it is slow to dry. Of all the Cult Pens ink tested to date, this one performs the worst on absorbent papers. Field Notes is a mess and the show through on Copy paper could be an issue for some too. I don't expect this one to enter my rotation very often.
