Ink Review: Deep Dark Red by Cult Pens (Diamine)

An overview of the inks within this review series is available here. I like red ink and this is one that could easily be used in correspondence. While there is no brown in this ink, the colour is headed in that direction, dried blood or a scabbed over knee comes to mind. I don't think that I'm selling this colour very well with my description.

Ink Properties

Shading: None.
Bleed Through: Not as bad as last week's Deep Dark Brown but a close second. The back side of Field Notes is unusable and Copy paper is a mess too.
Show Through: Absorbent papers exhibit show through but the bleed through is the real problem.
Saturation: Highly saturated.
Sheen: None.
Water Resistance: No useful water resistance.
Drying Time: Longer than average dry time, 25 seconds using an EF nib on Rhodia.
Flow: Average flow. Average lubrication.
Cleaning: Average which is kind of nice for a red ink, reds are usually a PITA.

A vibrant cherry red band leads the trace followed by a colour gap and then a grey band can be seen where the sample was applied to the wicking media.

While I have shown similar inks above, please note that the colour swatches are from different sources and may not have received the same level of colour correction.

Conclusions

It's too bad that this ink bleeds through cheap papers because everything else about it is great. I love the colour, while it may not be great for workplace use, it is easy to read and would be good in journalling or correspondence. I'm glad that I have it and I will limit it's use to Tomoe River, Rhodia and Clairefontaine so that the bleed through will not be an issue.
