Ink Review: Document Ink - Green by De Atramentis

An overview of the inks within this review series is available here. Here we have a Document ink that is an evergreen colour that feels well lubricated as it goes down on the page and dries quite matte. This colour penetrates the paper but isn't as aggressive as the blue so bleed through and show through, while still problems, are more manageable that the blues when good quality, ink resistant paper is used. Absorbent papers are still a mess.

Ink Properties

Shading: None.
Bleed Through: This ink is an aggressive bleeder on both Copy paper and Field notes and will have spot bleeding on Rhodia.
Show Through: The deep penetration as well as the deep colour of this ink make the backsides of absorbent paper unusable. You could use the back of Rhodia but probably would choose not to.
Saturation: Higher than average saturation.
Sheen: None.
Water Resistance: 100% waterproof.
Drying Time: Better than average dry time, 15 seconds using an EF nib on Rhodia. Dry time is almost instant on absorbent papers.
Flow: Average flow. Higher than average lubrication.
Cleaning: Easy to clean. Just a thorough flushing required.

Neither one of these inks are a very good colour match but they are both water resistant.

Conclusions

In general, greens are scaredy cats when it comes to water. If you sneeze your journal entry is gone. When I heard about a waterproof green I got excited. My feelings about this ink are very similar to the feelings I had for the regular Blue; it is enjoyable to write with but the bleeding ruins the overall experience. I would say to keep looking but my experience with Noodler's Bad Green Gator was much worse than this ink so I think that if you want a waterproof green, you buy this one and live with the bleed.
