Ink Review: Yama-Budo by Pilot Iroshizuku

I received this ink directly from Pilot Pen USA for review. Yama-Budo (Crimson Glory Vine) is a lovely purple magenta that allows you to express the extrovert side of your identity. While this highly saturated colour may not fit in with a work place setting, it is perfect in a journal or for writing to your favourite pen pal.

Ink Properties

Shading: This ink has lovely shading properties which are best displayed on highly ink resistant papers like Tomoe River.
Bleed Through: While Copy paper did show some bleed through, both Rhodia and Field Notes performed well.
Show Through: Copy paper exhibits show through but the back sides of Rhodia and Field Notes are perfectly usable
Saturation: Highly saturated.
Sheen: A metallic gold-green sheen can develop where the ink pools on Tomoe River paper.
Water Resistance: No useful water resistance.
Drying Time: Slower than average, 30 seconds using an EF nib on Rhodia.
Flow: Excellent flow, no performance concerns here.
Cleaning: To be determined. Will update in the near future.

Conclusions

This ink checks all of the right boxes for me; unique colour, check; shading, check; good flow, no hard starts, check; it even develops a sheen on Tomoe River. I would be willing to put up with a lot of downsides for an ink that does all of the above but the only downside I could find was bleed/show through on Copy paper. Fine, I won't use it on Copy paper then. I'm glad that this ink is on hand now and it will be in my rotation on a regular basis.
