Ink Review: Tropical Green by Diamine

An overview of the inks within this review series is available here. Diamine Tropical Green is a lovely green that leans ever so slightly towards blue. While this ink is saturated, it also shades well. Tropical Green is darker and more blue than Private Reserve Spearmint but the shading properties are similar.

Ink Properties

Shading: Nice shading, not phenomenal, but nice.
Bleed Through: Copy paper experiences bleeding as well as minor feathering. Field Notes has very minor the spot bleeding as well as a hint of feathering. As usual, Rhodia fairs quite well.
Show Through: Show through on Copy paper makes it so the backside is not suitable for use. While the ink does have some minor ghosting, most would consider the backside of Field Notes to be OK for use. As is usually the case, the backside of Rhodia is just fine for use.
Saturation: Well saturated.
Sheen: None.
Water Resistance: This ink has no water resistance.
Drying Time: Long dry time, 30 seconds using an EF nib on Rhodia.
Flow: Average flow. Average lubrication.
Cleaning: Yet to be determined. Will update.

Conclusions

I like green ink and the shading properties of this one make it an attractive choice. I find that I prefer the earth toned greens similar to the Diamine Safari that was reviewed last week, so I don't think that Tropical Green will be entering the collection but that isn't a reason for you not to get a bottle.

I reached out to Diamine and asked if they would be willing to supply samples of the complete line of the 150th Anniversary inks. I do not feel that my opinions of this ink have been affected by receiving the sample free of charge.
