I'll start out by thanking Luxury Brands, the US distributor for Noodler's products, for supplying a bottle of this ink for review purposes. Noodler's American Eel Blue is a beautiful and highly lubricated blue ink. While it might be considered a little too bright for more conservative workplaces, the extrovert in you will want to use it anyway.
Shading: While I would not consider this a shading ink, some can be had when wider nibs are used.
Bleed Through: Copy paper experiences some spot bleed through with all nib sizes. As always, Rhodia is a champ and Field Notes does quite well too. There is some minor feathering on Field Notes but this is not really an issue.
Show Through: The backside of Copy Paper is unusable, Rhodia is perfectly usable and and Field Notes is only OK.
Saturation: Higher than average saturation.
Water Resistance: There is no water resistance on Rhodia but copy paper retains a lot of the dye while exhibiting some spread and bleeding.
Drying Time: Slightly slower than average, 25 seconds using an EF nib on Rhodia.
Flow: Good flow and excellent lubrication.
Colour Make Up
As can be seen above, this ink is composed of nothing but blue dye.
Long time readers of the blog will know that I'll give a highly lubricated ink a lot of latitude on other performance vectors. The feel of the nib on paper with this ink is just great! The trade off for this is slightly longer than average dry times when the ink is freshly loaded and tremendously long dry times when the water content of the ink has partially evaporated from the converter. If you confine your writing to paper that is available in the workplace you likely won't experience these longer dry times but expect some show through.
Do I like this ink? Yes I do. If you don't have a similar colour in your collection already, you could do a lot worse than Noodler's American Eel Blue.
