On New Year's Day the 2017 Hobonichi Planner insert got swapped into my leather journal cover and the 2016 insert go placed onto my bedside table. Over the last week I've been reading this journal and reliving the year that has just passed.
I'm no Oscar Wilde; in truth the book is filled with a litany of minutiae, what we ate for dinner or small items that broke and got fixed around the house, but every once in a while you come across an entry that makes you laugh out loud.
It is also interesting to see trends, my six year old likes homemade macaroni and cheese and it would seem that it got pretty heavy rotation in our house at certain times of the year. Also in the spring we brought in a new rule that there was to be no screen time on school days, her behaviour seemed to improve because of it. The flip side of this was that she would tear off of the school bus on a Friday afternoon and plant herself in front of the TV to get her weekly fix.
When I bought the 2016 Techo I jumped in with both feet and purchased a $100 leather cover to go with it. The logic at the time was that if I made the purchase terrifically expensive I would feel obligated to use the book everyday. I don't know whether this mind hack was necessary but pulling the book out and using it feels special. Having just read about last year makes me look forward to journaling in 2017 and while journaling could be done in any book, I really enjoyed the Techo for my practice.
